Diana Winter

Biografia

Born in 1985 in Florence to an Austrian mother and an Italian father, she was introduced to classical music by her pianist mother. She began her classical guitar studies at an early age under M° Nuccio D'Angelo, developing a particular interest in Brazilian guitar. She privately studied operatic singing and explored Afro-American music culture and practice with M° Past. Nehemiah H. Brown at the Florence Gospel Choir School. During high school, she composed and produced her first EP of original songs, participated in Sanremo Rock, and composed instrumental music for small theater productions performed at the Greek Theater of Palazzolo Acreide (SR) and the Lorenese Theater of Fortezza da Basso (Florence).

After earning her classical high school diploma, she worked in Italy, England, and Belgium on her first solo album, for which she wrote both lyrics and music. The album featured artistic production by Fabio Balestrieri (Larry Dunn, Stephen Bray, George Benson, Tom Jones, Giorgia) and Phil Gould (Level 42).

A singer and guitarist with numerous publications, she has collaborated with Giorgia since 2008. As an educator and lecturer, she has written for various magazines and participated in many music projects supporting educational and social initiatives. Over the years, she has worked on TV, live performances, and in studios with artists such as Toots Thielemans, Level 42, Noemi, and Drusilla Foer.

At 22, her album Escapizm was released under the Warner Bros label, mastered by Martin Giles (Depeche Mode) at Alchemy Soho in London. The album launch sold out at the Blue Note in Milan, followed by a promotional tour across major national radio networks, concerts, and showcases in Italy, England, the Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium. She opened for the Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio and, in 2008, was invited by Giorgia to collaborate on the song Vieni Fuori, which Giorgia called "a gem." She performed the main theme for the film Essayette by Beatriz Martinez-Gatell (UK, 2008) and worked again with Giorgia on a remake of La Gatta.

At 24, she became the sole vocalist for Giorgia on the Spirito Libero Tour and later performed at the charity concert Amiche per l'Abruzzo at San Siro Stadium in Milan. After living in Italy, England, and the Netherlands, she graduated in Clinical Psychology from the University of Florence. In 2012, she rejoined Giorgia for the Dietro le Apparenze Tour, appeared alongside Giorgia on Radio Italia Live, the Wind Music Awards 2012 at the Verona Arena, and in the music video for the double-platinum single Tu mi porti su.

In 2013, she participated in the first season of The Voice (Rai 2), achieving excellent jury and public feedback. She later released the single Voglio fare un errore under Universal. This was followed by opening for Paola Turci, extensive live activity in Italy and England, invitations to the Premio Heraclea, and judging roles in various music contests. In England, she collaborated with the international London collective Bongosaloon (Phil Gould, Bern Locker, Alex Gould, Mark Neary, Jeremy Stacey, Ash Soan, Carl Brazil) and an ensemble including Wally Badarou, Yolanda Charles, Mike Lindup, Paul Stacey, and others, recording in London studios and at Chale Abbey Studios (Isle of Wight).

She earned a diploma in Advanced Artistic Vocology at the University of Bologna (Alma Mater), with her thesis published in the proceedings of the 10th International Conference La Voce Artistica (2015). She participated in charity events such as Nicco Day at Obi Hall and the National Conference of Family Physicians at Teatro Puccini (Florence), advocating against domestic violence. Her second album of original songs, Tender Hearted (2015), included two singles, produced by Fabio Balestrieri with contributions from Phil Gould, Neil Black, Rupert Brown, Al Slavik, and visual artists Noumeda Carbone and Arash Irandoust. Concerts followed in Italy, England, Austria, and the Netherlands.

In 2016, she won the "Toscana 100 Band" contest, supporting anti-violence centers for women through concerts. She was the sole vocalist and acoustic guitarist for Noemi during the Cuore D'Artista Tour, accompanying her in events like Anlaids, Premio Bellisoni (Rai 1), and others. Since 2016, she has been an annual guest at the Meeting dei Diritti Umani with schools from Tuscany.

As an endorser for Iqs Strings, Eko Guitars, and Magrabò Straps, she developed the songwriting project Mai in silenzio, aimed at high school students to raise awareness against gender violence, with jury members like Irene Grandi and Tommaso Brunori. She was the vocalist and acoustic guitarist for the Domenica In Orchestra (Rai 1) in the 2017–2018 season, participated in Piedigrotta Futurista, and collaborated with Noemi on the La Luna Tour 2018.
